Super Foods to Fight Infections
This is a human white blood cell (neutrophil) vs. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This particular white blood cell plays an important role in our innate immune system. When they sense an infection, they are the first cells to migrate to the site of the infection to begin invading foreign bacteria, viruses, parasites, and / or worms. Adding foods high in antioxidants such as vitamin E, vitamin C, and beta carotene can help you fight off infections:
1. VITAMIN E:
Broccoli, carrots, chard, mustard and turnip greens, mangoes, nuts, papaya, pumpkin, red peppers, spinach, and sunflower seeds.
2. VITAMIN C
Berries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cantaloupe, cauliflower, grapefruit, honeydew, kale, kiwi, mango, nectarine, orange, papaya, snow peas, sweet potato, strawberries, tomatoes, and red, green, or yellow peppers.
3. BETA-CAROTENE:
Apricots, asparagus, beets, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, corn, green peppers, kale, mangoes, turnip and collard greens, nectarines, peaches, pink grapefruit, pumpkin, squash, spinach, sweet potato, tangerines, tomatoes, and watermelon.
