I began my childhood psychiatry rotation this week and it has given me such a new perspective on life. Below is a note that was written by one of the kids. Many of these kids are orphans or have experienced brutal traumas such as being sexually abused as early as three years old or receiving beatings via an extension cord; being fed sporadically; being locked in a closet; having their parents put cigarettes out on their skin; and / or being told that they will never amount to anything.
These children and minors have experienced atrocities that will impact every relationship they will ever have in their lives. Individuals who grow up in an abusive house hold are more likely to have abusive relationships in their lives. The abused becomes the abuser. The treatment of our youth truly determines what kind of cycles we create for our future and for our humanity! I pray we can make the world better for our kids before we leave it.
