Instead of looking at life as a problem to be solved, but rather an experience to be had; it becomes much more exciting. Remember, your entire being is shaped by your thoughts; you will become what you think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
When you make an intention to set a goal – you plant a seed. When you focus more on watering the soil every day rather than worrying about the outcome of the fruit, your garden prospers. Giving more attention to ‘the doing,’ rather than the result that you wish to achieve is where the term ‘fruits of your labor’ is given rise. For example, if you are a medical student who wishes to pass the USMLE Step One, focusing on the studying in the present moment rather than pondering outcomes can give you a selective advantage. Starting now, do not be concerned with the fruit of your action, just give attention to the action itself. The fruit will come of its own accord. This is a powerful spiritual practice in the Bhagavad Gita, non-attachment to the fruit of your action is called Karma Yoga. It is described as the path of “sacred action.”
