The Da Vinci Surgical System

In this robot assisted surgery, we get to see first-hand how technology has made it possible to complete surgeries that would be difficult to perform with human hands or conventional surgical instruments alone. The procedure in this video involved removing a human gallbladder from the liver. For surgeons, this Da Vinci Surgical System machine allows for better vision, more precision and more control due to the system’s magnification and 3D capabilities. It eliminates the risk of the surgeon having tremors during the procedure, and it allows for multiple degrees and directions of movement. Through Da Vinci’s robotic wrists, which are capable of rotating 540 degrees, surgeons are able to perform movements that aren’t possible with human hands!

Here we see that the Da Vinci Surgical System is used to stitch a grape back together. The same technology that can be used to suture a tiny grape is designed to help perform delicate, minimally invasive surgery.
