Dr. Judy Seto, the longtime physical therapist for Kobe Bryant gives us three things Kobe has done that helped him acquire his legendary threshold for pain:
1. DO NOT ALLOW PAIN TO CONTROL YOU:
“Some people: when they have an injury – prolong the pain by focusing on it too much or by talking about it with everyone. An injury inhibits your effectiveness with certain tasks if you take this approach.”
2. CHANNELING YOUR ENERGY:
“When he dislocated his finger during the first quarter of a game (it was at a 90 degree angle): the head trainer relocated it and Kobe went right back into the game. His focus allows him to channel his energies. It’s not that he doesn’t feel pain; it’s how he responds.”
3. FOCUS BEYOND THE PAIN:
“He channels his focus so well in terms of the task at hand: when he feels pain – he blocks it out. Not making excuses and having patience has actually helped him rehabilitate himself faster than most humans.”
