Can Millennials Change the Healthcare System?
Via Frued and Fashion / Dr. Vania Manipod
Our #MondayMotivation was inspired by a popular video by Jamie Katuna titled “Millennials are the Ones Who Will Fix Healthcare.” If you asked me during residency if I would’ve desired being a part-time doc, I would’ve said ‘no way’ ‘cus I’ve got loans to pay off and people to help save. However, the current state of our healthcare system led me to make decisions in protest of expected subservience and the following is a comment I wrote on the KevinMD.com (KevinMD.com) website in support of Jamie, because of the barrage of comments rejecting her hopes / ideals:
I have been in practice for four years and have left working for a large health care organization in order to recover from burnout and am currently self-employed. I would love to see more millennials / future doctors / new doctors commenting on here because many of us do share the same vision as Jamie; many of us are technically savvy (as Jamie mentioned) and have formed online communities sharing our desire for change in the healthcare system; many of us have thousands of followers on social media (many being premed / med students and health care consumers) and are positively influencing one another to openly discuss our issues with the healthcare system. We may not have a plan at this exact moment, but at least our optimism and energy provides hope for change in the future.
We would love to hear your thoughts too!
