“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone”
– Ronald Reagan
How true is this?
I recently stumbled upon MEDspiration, an organization which aims to “advance the human potential, raise the consciousness of mankind and improve the quality of life of any soul we may touch.” I was even more intrigued when I realized a medical student founded the organization during his first year. What?! I couldn’t even do my laundry as a med student!
It got me thinking about how overwhelming it can be to affect change on a grand scale. Maybe what’s equally as important as large actions are the small ways to plant positive seeds all over the world. It can be something as small as a smile and helpful hand to a mom toting toddlers and bags of groceries, or giving up a seat on the subway to a standing senior citizen, or paying for a cup of coffee when someone’s gotten to the front of the line without their wallet. Everyone can help someone, no matter how large or small an act. While MEDspiration is currently raising money for clean water in South Africa, what are you doing to benefit the quality of life of those around you? Maybe it’s caring for a patient in the ER, or saving a life during surgery or maybe- today- it’s something as simple as supporting a group by purchasing a MEDspiration T-shirt – All proceeds from t-shirt sales are sent directly to the South Africa mission for clean water. Who will you help today?
